Abstract:Optimization of flow control devices in seven-strand tundish was investigated by physical simulation. The results show that the consistency of the flow characteristics for the strands in the tundish without flow control devices is bad. Original flow control devices play a certain role in flow guiding, but there are difference between strands 1 and 2 and strands 3 and 4, with dead zone of 22.68% in average. Distribution of molten steel among the strands tends to uniform in the tundish with the optimized flow control devices, and the mean residence time can increase to 520.2s and dead zone decrease to 16.75%, which can be conducive to the smooth production and the improvement of slab quality.
