Abstract:Structure of tundish equipped with induction heater is quite different from that of prototype tundish, so the flow field can not be optimized simply by adding retaining walls, dams or current stabilizers. Aiming at the problems of large temperature difference between side strand and middle strand and high superheat degree of casting in domestic 5-channel induction heating tundish, several schemes were designed, and their flow field and temperature field were compared by numerical simulation. The flow field of induction heating tundish needs to be re-optimized. In this paper, the effect of different channel structures on tundish flow field is studied. The results show that the structure of the split channel structures with variable diameter is the best. After optimization of tundish structure, the temperature difference between each strand is only 1~2 ℃, the standard deviation of tracer concentration is only 0.03, and the volume fraction of dead zone is only 16.6%. It not only ensures the uniformity of molten steel among flows, but also helps to remove inclusions and improve the metallurgical effect of tundish.
