A 3D simulation calculation and analysis of baking parameters of soderberg electrode in submerged arc furnace

Abstract：The temperature, current density and Joule heat distribution of the soderberg electrode in a submerged arc furnace are studied by means of multi physical field coupling method. In order to further analyze the influence of current, length of fins, number of fins and conductivity of electrode paste on the temperature distribution of soderberg electrode, the temperature distribution curves of cross-sections at z=-0.725 m, z=-0.362 5 m and z=0 m along the x-axis were plotted. The results showed that the soderberg electrode was pressed at the speed of 400 mm/d and the baking zone was located at 2/3 of the contact element. At this time, the strength of soderberg electrode can support its own weight, and there will be no paste flow and soft break accident. When the current was 25, 55 and 100 kA, the baking zone moved to the upper part of the contact element with the increase of current. When the electrode pastes conductivity was 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 times, the baking zone moved to the lower part of the contact element with the increase of the conductivity. However, the length and number of fins had little effect on the temperature field of soderberg electrode. And the change of baking zones was not obvious with the increase or decrease of the length of ribs by 100 mm or two fins.
