Abstract:The container strip steel (SPA-H) produced by the FTSR thin slab casting and rolling production line in Tonghua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. was subjected to a problem of edge defects. In order to solve the problem, the causes of the eddy cracking were analyzed. It thought that the metallurgical conditions including the unreasonable secondary cooling water supply, the poor state of segment operation, the high torsion of pinch rolls, the static one step press down of roller gap in the segment zero and the high mass fractions of [Als] and [N] in steel were the main reasons for the eddy cracking. The edge defect ratio of the container strips were reduced from 14.9% to 0.9% percent by optimizing the second water cooling supply, changing the improper rollers in the segments on time, applying the multi-stage soft reduction, and reducing the mass fractions of [Als] and [N] in the molten steel.
