Abstract:The two single-strand slab casters at Luojing Plant were transformed into a 2 300 mm slab caster in Baosteel Zhanjiang. Owing to the inherent three hinge points structure of the segments, the practical online roll gap accuracy usually exceeded ±2 mm, sometimes even reached ±5 mm, which frustrated to meet the production requirement. On the basis of the principle of segment gap control, the accurate feedback value of the roll gap was obtained by roll gap conversion, and the automatic control of the segment roll gap can be achieved. The reasons for the roll gap clearance were analyzed, and the segment gap clearance control technology was put forward. The actual application showed that the technology can control the offline and online roll gap accuracy within ±0.2 and ±0.5 mm respectively, and effectively ensure the equipment function accuracy and state stability,which could create favorable conditions to improve the quality of products, give full play to productivity advantage for 2 300 mm continuous casters,and had a certain significance for the design and reform of segments.
