Abstract:Through the analysis of the existing research status of soft reduction and hard reduction and the situation of onsite production, the soft reduction with convex roller was proposed and then carried out on a bloom continuous casting machine. The trial results showed that center segregation could be reduced effectively by using the convex roller instead of the flat roller, the internal cracks were not formed and the shrinkage and loosening of macrostructure were not observed. Trial showed that the reduction force and torque could be reduced by 30% during soft reduction with the convex roller by replacing the flat roller, which could be the guideline for soft reduction revamping on bloom continuous casting machine with insufficient reduction capacity.
