Abstract:The edge carburization defect of LZ50 axle steel was tested by metallographic and scanning electronic microscope. It was found the structure of carburization area was pearlite, and abundant MnS and silicate inclusions were appeared at carburization area. The greater gap between riser head and ingot was found out by onsite investigation, in which there was large mold power that was high carbon slag. And thus it can be judged that the contact between the mold power and steel caused the edge carburization at riser head line, and also the inclusions which was not absorbed completely by the mold power in steel was captured at the surface of billet.
