Abstract:The type, morphology, size, quantity and composition of non- metal oxide inclusions of wire rod in hard wire steel of four domestic and foreign plants were studied by using the scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the type of inclusions is CaO- SiO2- Al2O3- MgO- MnO. For the non- metallic inclusions, the foreign factories have lower Al2O3 content and higher SiO2 content than domestic factories. Inclusions in two foreign factories are of good ductility and strip shape, and its aspect ratio is above 3. It needs to reduce the number and size of non- metallic inclusions in unit area. For example for the two advanced foreign factories, their control level of inclusions number is 0.111- 0.154mm-2. Smaller inclusions (< 3 μm) are less than domestic factory. wT[O]and wN of foreign manufacturers are in control of 0.0035%. Control level of foreign manufacturers is relatively high, wT[O]and wN is 0.0021% and 0.0025%, respectively.
