Controlling the plastic inclusions in tire cord steel by top slag

Abstract:By top slag melting experiment in which tire cord steel billet of certain steel plant was used as raw material performed in a silicon molybdenum furnace, the influence of top slag components on the plasticity of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 inclusions was studied. Results show that the content of Al2O3 in inclusions increased with the content of Al2O3 in top slag when the basicity of top slags ranged from 0.8 to 1.2. When the content of Al2O3 in top slag was less than 2%, the w[Al]s in steel was below 8×10-6 to make sure that the content of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 inclusions was in the plasticity region. With the control of content of top slag, the content of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 inclusions can be controlled in the plasticity region.
