This article describes the development of high strength structural steel Q550D. In composition design, we adopted the scheme of low carbon and high manganese and added proper amount of microalloy elements, such as V, Nb, Ti, Mo and B. In steelmaking, we adopted the processes of hot metal desulphurization, LF+VD secondary refining and low superheat casting. In rolling, we determined the proper heating temperature and adopted the processes of TMCP and stacking cooling. The steel plates with excellent mechanical properties and internal soundness were produced successfully.
