Numerical Simulation and Optimization of Flow Field in Tundish

Abstract:Numerical simulation and optimization of flow field in tundish were studied based on finite element analysis software. The results indicate that setting flow control devices can obviously improve flow situation of molten steel, and can enhance quality of continuous cast strand. The effect of several kinds of flow control devices were compared, and it’s found that the effect of setting weirs is obvious. Purification efficiency of molten steel is the best when the space between weir and dam is 750 mm and the distance is 1350 mm from the weir to the gate of injected flow.
