Abstract:Controlling and removing inclusions in molten steel has been the hot spot issue in the iron- and steel- making industry. On the basis of the analysis of the domestic and international literatures, the detriment of inclusions in steel and the normal methods for removing inclusions were briefly reviewed, and the current mode and electrified form were introduced. Then the research status of controlling the morphology, size and migration of inclusions by using external electric current were elaborated in detail. At the same time, the application of the external electric current in the anti- clogging of submerged entry nozzle was also included. Many studies indicated that the external electric current had multifarious effects on the inclusions in molten steel, such as refinement, agglomeration, deformation, which were depend on the specific experimental condition and current parameter. On the other hand, taking advantage of the migration effect on inclusions by external electric current, the anti- clogging of submerged entry nozzle was achieved. The mechanism of external current on inclusions did not made a world- wide agreement and needed further investigation.
