Abstract:The influence of calcium treatment on the sulfide morphology in the S-bearing non-quenched and tempered steel was studied by the small furnace experiment in the laboratory. The results showed that the pure manganese sulfide in the ingot was transferred into calcium aluminum composite sulfides after calcium treatment. In addition, the fraction of sulfide whose aspect ratio was within 1-2 apparently increased after calcium treatment. Similarly, the fraction of sulfide whose aspect ratio was within 1-3 in the calcium treated samples apparently increased after rolling. The results indicated that calcium treatment can effectively improve the sulfide morphology and make more sulfide transferred into spindle-shaped. As a consequence, the performance of steel was improved.
