Automobile gear steel is mainly estimated by its cleanliness, hardenability and grain size. The total oxygen (T[O]) content is the main index for measuring the cleanliness of the steel. In Fushun Special Steel Company of Dongbei Special Group, high-level automobile gear steels with carbon content less than 0.25% and T[O] content less than 15×10 -6 were produced by adjusting the deoxidation system, employing the reasonable slag system and manufacture process of EAF with ultra-high-power+LF+VD+CC, whose non-metallic inclusion totally met the re- quirement of the specification for a foreign user.
