Abstract:Subcutaneous bubbles are common quality defects of continuous casting billets, which seriously affect the quality and performance of steel. The situation of subcutaneous bubble defects in continuous casting billets of some domestic steel mills was summarized and analyzed. And it was found that the defects of carbon monoxide bubbles and argon bubbles accounted for a large proportion. Then the distribution characteristics of subcutaneous bubble defects in continuous casting billets, the mechanism of trapped bubbles, and the causes of the formation of different types of bubble defects were summarized. It was found that incomplete deoxygenation, nozzle argon blowing process, electromagnetic stirring and degree of superheat, etc., could affect the subcutaneous bubbles defects. In order to reduce the adverse effects caused by the subcutaneous bubbles defects in continuous casting billets, the effective measures to control the defects were put forward, which could provide a reference for actual production.
