Experiment on effect of nitrogen content in steel on sulfide of sulfur-containing gear steel

The production process of 20CrMnTi ( mass fraction/%: 0.17~0.23C, 0.17~0.37Si, 0.80~1.00Mn, 0.025~0.035S, 0.004~0.08Ti, 1.10~1.25Cr) is 90 t LD-LF-RH-CCM-150 mm×150 mm billet continuous casting in a steel plant. Through thermodynamic calculation, MnS and TiN in gear steel 20CrMnTi steel are precipitated between liquidus and solidus. Experiment study on the combined denaturation effect of sulfide and titanium nitride in steel is studied on the condition of the steel with different nitrogen content. The results show that when the nitrogen content in the steel is at about 0.005 5%, TiN is preferentially precipitated as to MnS. More of the sulfide inclusions in the steel are nucleated with titanium nitride to form composite inclusions of manganese sulfide and titanium nitride, thereby improving the size and morphology of class A inclusions. Class A inclusions become short and uniformly dispersed. According to the GB/T 10561, the grade 1.5 is achieved.
