In order to study the composition and distribution of inclusions of the high quality GH4738 alloy bars prepared by triple process (VIM+ESR+VAR) and upsetdraw cogging,the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)were used to investigate in the transverse and longitudinal center,1/2R and edges. The results show that the inclusions in the highquality GH4738 alloy bar are mainly composed of Ti(C,N)MoS composite inclusions,Ti(C,N) inclusions,SiC inclusions and very small amounts of Al2O3 and MgO oxide inclusions. The percentage of quantity were 70%,20%,8% and 2% respectively. After the upsetdraw cogging,the total number of inclusions from the center to the edge showed an increasing trend. The size of the inclusions on the transverse direction of the bars showed a decreasing trend,but the average size of the inclusions in different locations was not significantly different.
