Abstract:The effect of MgO and Al2O3 content on metallurgical properties of blast furnace slag is investigated under experimental conditions. The result showed that when the basicity and the MgO content of the blast furnace slag were 1.1 and 12 %, respectively, the melt temperature of the blast furnace slag increased with the increase of Al2O3 concent. Besides, when the Al2O3 content exceeded 17.5%, the primary phase was transformed from melilite to spinal. Furthermore, at 1500℃, the increase of Al2O3 content caused the viscosity to be enhanced whereas the sulfur distribution ration to be decreased. On the other hand, in the case that basicity was 1.1 and Al2O3 content was 20 %, the increase of MgO content made a drop followed a rise of melt temperature. Particularly, when the MgO content was higher than 11.8%, melilite instead of spinal as the primary phase was formed. In addition, at 1500℃, as the MgO content increased, viscosity of the blast furnace slag gradually decreased and the sulfur distribution ratio increased.
