Abstract:In order to master the comprehensive cooling characteristics of casting machine, verify the accuracy of calculation of caster model and provides the basis for the optimization of the secondary cooling system, nail- shooting experiment was carried out on medium carbon steel and high carbon steel of No.3 super- thick slab caster in Xinsteel. By the experiment, the solidified shell thickness near straightening area was accurately measured under certain working conditions, which was used as the boundary conditions to simulation the position of solidification end point. The numerical simulation results showed that the distances from meniscus to final stage of solidification on the conditions of medium carbon steel production and high carbon steel production were about 33.7m and 27.6m, respectively. The nail- shooting experiment combined with the solidification simulation can provide the theoretical basis for the process of dynamic soft reduction of slab caster.
