Experimental study on steelmaking using limestone instead of lime as the slagging material in 100t converter

Abstract:The results of the experiments on steelmaking using limestone instead of lime as slagging material in 100t LD of Qinhuangdao Shouqin Metal Materials company were studied. The results showed that it had achieved good metallurgical effect by using limestone for slagging in singer- slag process or double slag forming process in the converter. Under the condition of charging amount of CaO decreased by 28.6%, the dephosphorization rate were 85.69%, which increased by 2.54% compared with that in the lime slagging process, and the P element had an uniform distribution in slag; At the same time the new process can reduce the dosage of slagging material by 15kg per ton steel. Using limestone instead of lime for steelmaing can increase the amount of converter gas recovery.
