Abstract:In order to meet the low titanium steel grades production, the titanium content in the molten iron need to be reduced in advance for detitanization task in the steelmaking process, so that the ultimate titanium content can achieve chemical composition requirement of low-titanium steel products such as bearing steel, spring steel, et al. The new technology and application of titanium removal from molten iron by adding iron powder into the ladle was studied. Firstly, the test result of thermal simulation in 500kg intermediate frequency induction furnace shows that the average rate of titanium removal could reach 68.7% while the maximum rate could reach 83.6%.On this basis, the new technology of titanium removal by iron powder using mechanical stirring was developed and successfully applied to industrial production. The titanium removal rate could reach 86.64%. Correspondingly, the oxidation behavior of silicon, manganese, and carbon elements associated with titanium removal process was also analyzed to prove the feasibility and advance of this new technology.
