With the depletion of nickel sulfide resources and the increasing demand for nickel, laterite nickel ore will be the main source of nickel. Laterite nickel ore has the characteristics of abundant reserves, easy exploitation and easy transportation, and has become a hotspot of research and development. The characteristics and present situation of hydrometallurgical treatment of laterite nickel ore by reduction roastingammonia leaching process, highpressure acid leaching process and atmospheric acid leaching process were summarized. The advantages and disadvantages of each process were analyzed. The research progress of the hydrometallurgical process of laterite nickel ore was introduced. The development prospect of hydrometallurgical processes of laterite nickel ore was discussed. It was pointed out that the highpressure acid leaching process would play an important role in the development of hydrometallurgical processes of laterite nickel ore.
