In order to investigate the fluid flow, solidification, transport and entrapment of inclusions in an actual vertical bending continuous caster, the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulent model, Solidification model and Lagrangian Discrete Phase Model (DPM) were coupled to investigate the influence of instantaneous flow field on transport and entrapment of inclusions in the strand. Instead of the effect of dendrite spacing, the volume percent of liquid steel was used to propose a new entrapment condition for inclusions at the solidification front. The removal and entrapment of inclusions was achieved using user defined function (UDF). The results show that the removal rate of inclusions at top surface increases as the inclusion diameter increases. The curved segment included in the actual vertical bending continuous caster caused an aggregation of large size inclusions at loose side, but the smallsize inclusions were more evenly distributed on the loose side and fixed side.
