The effect of Cr2O3 in the MgOCaOSiO2Al2O3Cr2O3 on the reoxidation in the tundish was studied by using a tube resistance furnace under laboratory conditions. It was found that the total oxygen content, the aluminum loss in the steel and the FeO content in the tundish cover power increased with the increase of Cr2O3. After increasing the partial pressure of oxygen, Si and Cr are oxidized and the oxidated degree of Si is much more severe than Cr. With the prolongation of the holding time, Cr2O3, SiO2 and FeO in the tundish cover power will be reduced resulting in the reoxidation of the molten steel again.
