The freeopening rate of the 300 t ladle in Shougang Jingtang was obviously reduced after covering. The mechanism of the decrease of the freeopening rate of the covered ladle was analyzed, and it determined that the main reason was the liquid slag backflow caused by the increase of the lining temperature. By studying the fluidity, density and steel penetration of the stuffing sand, a proportion of the stuffing sand suitable for the covered ladle was designed, and the purity of the chromite sand was ensured by controlling the content of Al2O3 and MgO. The hot repair process of ladle had been improved, and the feeding pattern of sand and the measures of avoiding slag backflow for the covered ladle had been designed. After the research results were promoted and used, the number of ladles not free opened was reduced from 89 heats to less than 2 heats. The comprehensive freeopening rate was 99.9%, and the duplex process freeopening rate was 100%.
