Abstract:Combined with actual production data, the mechanism on nozzle blockage during continuous casting process of ultra purified 11%Cr ferrite stainless steels (11%Cr UP- FSS) was investigated by metallurgical observation and energy spectrum analysis as well as the thermodynamic calculation for titanium and aluminum oxides formation. The result showed that nozzle blockageof 11%Cr UP- FSS was mainly caused by the high Ti- oxides content in molten steel. During the casting process, the compound oxides generated from the reaction between Ti- oxides and Al2O3 in nozzle refractory adhered to the nozzle wall, enriched continuously and adsorbed other inclusions and molten steel, which can make the nozzle wall thicker. Nozzle blockage of 11%Cr UP- FSS can be effectively prevented through controlling the O, Al, Ti contents in steel, using deep deoxidization during smelting process, increasing the soft blowing time and holding time, preventing the secondary oxidation and casting in higher degree of superheat.
