Abstract:Determination of the solidification end on bloom casting is very significant for soft reduction technologies determination and improving center porosity and center segregation. Firstly, through two-dimension unsteady heat transfer equation, solidification mathematical model was established for 350mm×470mm bloom casting in BEN Steel. Secondly, the bloom shell thickness was measured by nail-shooting experiments and sulfur print photos. Finally, surface temperature of bloom casting was tested. The experiments results show that the measured bloom shell thickness by nail-shooting experiments and the checked surface temperature were both in good agreement with their respective simulation data through solidification mathematical model. Thus, the calculated solidification end by mathematical model is reliable, and it can provide certain theory references in the continuous casting production.
