Abstract:The effect of retained austenite on the impact toughness in medium-carbon dual-phase steels were analyzed by different heat treatment processes. The microstructure and impact toughness of different steels were observed, detected and analyzed by the optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and charpy impact machine. The results show that the impact properties of bainitic steel was significantly higher than Q/P martensitic steels with medium-carbon (impact energy in room temperature was 57J against 16J, impact energy in -40℃ temperature was 33J against 9J). The possible reason is that bainitic steels with retained austenite film was more pronounced to prevent crack propagation effects.
