Effect of microstructure and shearing parameter on the edge crack defect in the SPHC steel with lower carbon content during cold rolling process

Abstract:The reason was studied for the edge crack defect in the SPHC steel with lower carbon content during cold rolling process in Qian’an Steel Company. The result shows that the coarse and mixed crystals in the edge of strip which was caused by excessive temperature drop in the edge during finishing rolling process, and the poor shearing quality which was caused by mismatch of shearing parameters were the reasons for the edge crack defect in the SPHC steel with lower carbon content during cold rolling process. By adjusting the cooling water system during finishing rolling process and matching shearing parameters reasonably, the defect was solved effectively.
