Abstract:Fluorite has a serious impact on environment. In order to reduce consumption of CaF2 in the refining process and achieve the goal of refining slag with lowfluorine or fluorinefree, related investigations were carried out in recent decades. The performance of refining slag of calcium aluminate and the influences of substitutes, such as B2O3, Li2O, BaO, on melting temperature, viscosity and desulfurization ability, corrosivity of refining slag were reviewed. The existing researches show that calcium aluminate refining slag has good performances in melting, foamability and desulfurization, which leads to the reduction of consumption of CaF2. Besides, the addition of the substitutes such as B2O3, Li2O, BaO reduces melting temperature and viscosity of refining slag. The activity of O2- increases with the amount of Li2O and BaO in slag, which is beneficial to desulfurization efficiency of LF refining slag. In addition, low viscosity also promotes the reaction on metalslag interface and the removal of inclusions from molten steel.
