The stiffness difference on both sides of the rolling mill is one of the most important indexes of the functional accuracy of the rolling mill. Based on the spring equation, the influence of the stiffness difference between the two sides of the rolling mill on the rolling stability was calculated quantitatively, which mainly included three aspects, the leveling value, the change of the leveling value with rolling force and the tail flick. On this basis, the evaluation standard of the stand stiffness was established on a hot rolling production line to control the stand functional accuracy. Also, the influencing factors of the stiffness difference between the two sides of the rolling mill were analyzed. Based on the digital analysis, a series of improvement measures were adopted to greatly improve the stiffness and stability of the rolling mill, including liner and shim maintenance, adjustment of the maximum rolling force for hysteresistest and calibration.
