Abstract:Conventional polyacrylate flocculants have been widely used to settle red mud in the Bayer process over the past two decades. A new manufacturing process has led to the increase of the development speed of higher polyacrylate flocculants by 20% or more. A new type of rigid rod structure acrylate polymers is synthesized by the polymerization, using the chain growth, it is revealed that implementation of the new polyacrylate flocculant technology can optimize the sedimentation index and reduce the overall consumption of flocculants during the production of alumina. The laboratory experiment and its results were summarized. Additional benefits of these new flocculants are currently under investigation.
