| Removal of harmful elements from aluminum dross and preparation of calcium aluminate by calcium conversion |

Abstract Aluminum dross is a hazardous solid waste produced by aluminum industry. It contains chlorine, nitrogen and other harmful elements and more Al2O3, which has the dual attributes of hazardous waste and resources. To remove harmful substances and recover alumina resources from aluminum dross, based on the analysis of chemical and phase composition of aluminum dross, the experiment of high temperature denitrification and dechlorination of aluminum dross and the preparation of calcium aluminate by calcium conversion was carried out. The effects of thermodynamics, material ratio and temperature in the reaction process of preparing calcium aluminate from aluminum dross on the product phase were studied. The results show that the harmful components in aluminum dross are removed when calcined at 1 300 ℃ for 1 hour, and the removal rates of nitrogen and chlorine are 98.16% and 99.33% respectively. The low melting point calcium aluminate product with 7Al2O3·12CaO as the main phase can be obtained when the mass ratio of Al2O3 to CaO is 0.36-1.79 and the roasting temperature is 1 320 ℃, and the obtained calcium aluminate product can meet the quality standard requirements of the pre-melted calcium aluminate product for common steelmaking.
