Abstract The causes and change regularity of sulfide in coke dry quenching (CDQ) system were studied by pyrolysis experiment and modeling analysis. The main sources of sulfide in CDQ system were residual volatile and coke burning loss, and there was an equilibrium concentration of sulfide (Se). Based on the pyrolysis of semi-coke by thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry (TG-MS), it was inferred that the main constituent of residual volatile of coke was H2. By modeling analysis, without considering residual volatile, the equilibrium concentration of sulfide was only related to oxygen content in air inserted and sulfur and carbon content in coke. When the burning loss of coke was constant, there was a specific value, Se increases with the increase of Vr when Sr was greater than the value, while Se decreases with the increase of Vr when Sr was smaller than the value. The sulfide concentration in CDQ circulating gas was measured, which was lower than theoretical value S0e, inferring that the residual volatile lowered Se in CDQ system.
