Abstract In order to reduce the NOx emission by optimizing the size of solid fuel in iron ore sintering process, the combustion tests of coke breezes with different size and the bonding strength of sinter tests with coke breezes of coarse (2.003.15 mm), middle (0.51.0 mm) and fines (less than 0.5 mm) sizes were carried out by using microsintering and combustion equipment, respectively. Then, the indexes of NOx emission and sinter were investigated with optimizing the size of coke breeze by sinter pot tests. The results showed that the NOx concentration and the conversion rate of N element increased with decreasing the size of coke breeze. At the same time, the bonding strength of sinter improved with coke breezes of coarse and middle sizes. At addition, when the size of coke breeze was between 0.50 and 3.15 mm, the maximum concentration of NOx and the conversion rate of N element decreased by 8% and 27%, respectively. The sinter indexes were also improved.
