Abstract The effects of purging plug distribution of 100 t combined blown converter on the steel flow field and mixing time were investigated by using the ANSYS Fluent software. The results showed that the flow field distribution of the molten steel was different with different bottom- blown configuration. With 100 m3/h total bottom gas flow rate, the mixed effective with double bottom- blown(the flow of each bottom- blown was 50 m3/h)was better than that with single bottom- blown, and the shortest mixing time of 204 s was attained with 2 bottom blown elements located asymmetrically on the cross, and the shorter mixing time of 255 s was attained with 4 bottom blown elements with plane symmetric distribution.
