Abstract:The conformal cooling mold generally has complex special-shaped flow channels, which can greatly improve the cooling efficiency and the surface quality of product, but its processing is very difficult. Additive manufacturing is a technology to realize component forming layer by layer, and its advantage is to realize the internal complex structure of materials. The manufacturing of powder is the basis and key step for additive manufacturing, the quality of powder is determining the quality of additive parts to a certain extent. The gas atomization and plasma rotating electrode process are two common methods for preparing mold steel powder. During the additive manufacturing, the material is always undergoing quickly melted and solidfied, and also goes through the thermal cycle between layers with non-equilibrium solidification microstructure, which is different from the casting state, and the properties are also different from the traditional parent material with the same composition. The tensile strength and yield strength of die steel by additive manufacturing are generally higher than those of as-cast and lower than those of rolled or solution-aged base materials, and the plasticity is generally difficult to meet the requirements of use. The process, microstructure and properties of powder preparation and properties of typical die steel are reviewed in order to provide reference for the in-depth study of additive manufacturing die steel.
