Effect of tempering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of medium manganese drill rod steel

Abstract:The effect of tempering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of medium manganese drill rod steel was studied by means of optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results showed that when the tempering temperature increased from 610 to 690 ℃, the tensile strength increased gradually, while the yield strength decreased gradually, and the elongation increased first and then decreased. The product of strength and plasticity reached 28 GPa·% at 670 ℃. After short-time tempering, the microstructure of tested steel was lath martensite with good plasticity, which could meet the requirement of strength and plasticity product of drill rod steel, but the wear resistance needed to be further improved.
