Abstract:The high-strength weathering resistant steel Q550NH for railways was developed in a steel enterprise. The main problem in production was that there were large areas of red rusty iron oxide scale and willow foliate iron oxide scale indentation defects on the surface of steel coils. By adjusting the process parameters such as furnace time, descaling pass, exit temperature of rough rolling and coil box mode, the solution of iron oxide scale on the surface of high strength weathering steel was studied. The red rusty iron oxide scale disappeared by increasing the exit temperature of rough rolling. By controlling the outlet temperature of rough rolling, shortening the time in the furnace, increasing the scale removal pass and rolling in straight-through mode, the willow foliate iron oxide scale can be improved and the cut rate of willow foliate iron oxide can be reduced from 3.48% to 0.2%.
