Abstract:High manganese steel frog is a key component of the railway system and is always produced through casting. However, limited by factors such as equipment and technical level, the casting defects generated in the casting process cause problems such as scrapping and short lives of high manganese steel frogs. The casting defects in high manganese steel frogs produced by traditional vacuum seal molding technology were analyzed. Results showed that the casting defects were mainly caused by local shrinkage porosity and inclusions formed by the ladle sand and modeling sand mixed in the molten steel and the deoxidation products. Strategies to improve the metallurgical and casting quality of high manganese steel frogs were proposed. The casting defects on the surface and in the center of high manganese steel frogs were significantly reduced by controlling the number and distribution of risers, adjusting the negative pressure of the system, introducing nitrogen blowing to the ladle, and improving the structure of the ladle bottom.
