Effect of nickel content on 2205 duplex stainless steel welds

Abstract:The microstructures of the welded joint of 2205 duplex stainless steel with different nickel content were studied by optical microscope. The corrosion rate was measured by the pitting corrosion test. The pitting potential of the welded joint was measured by the electrochemical workstation. The results showed that the microstructures of the welded joint of 2205 duplex stainless steel with a thickness of 1.2 mm were two-phase microstructure (ferrite+austenite), and pitting pits mainly occurred in heat affected zone and weld metal. The higher the nickel content, the higher the austenite content, and the higher the pitting potential. The difference in pitting corrosion resistance was related to the phase ratio in the joint.
