Failure analysis of shaft fracture of a hot air circulation fan

Abstract:In order to study the failure modes, influencing factors and preventive measures of hot air circulation fan shaft, improve quality of the relevant metal parts, and improve the equipment safety and reliability, details aiming at the fracture failure of a hot air circulation fan shaft in an aluminum alloy heat treatment furnace.The technical means, such as chemical composition analysis, mechanical property test, metallographic examination, SEM inspection, finite element method, were used to analyze the causes of shaft fracture failure. And the preventive and improvement measures were put forward. The results showed that the hot air circulation fan shaft fracture mode was the rotational bending fatigue fracture under the condition of low nominal stress and mild stress concentration. The welding defects during maintenance and the step change of diameter near the shoulder caused the different degree of stress concentration, reduced the fatigue life of materials and eventually led to the shaft fracture failure.
