Abstract:For utilizing red mud produced by alumina smelting process, the direct reduction of red mud in rotary hearth furnace and grindingmagnetic separation to obtain highgrade direct reduction iron were explored. The process parameters of rotary hearth furnace reduction were explored through laboratory experiments, and industrial experiments were conducted on the industrial test line of hearth furnace. Laboratory results showed that metallization of DRI after red mud reduction was about 88.6%, and after magnetic separation, the iron grade was about 82.1%, and the iron recovery was about 88.9%. In industrial experiments, the average metallization rate of the product was about 69.2% after reduction in the hearth furnace. After magnetic separation, DRI products with high grade were obtained, the iron grade and iron recovery of DRI production were about 72.8% and 85.2%, respectively. The technological route of reducing red mud and magnetic separation in the hearth furnace has been preliminarily investigated.
