Abstract:Central segregation of C, Mn, Cr and large cooling rate after rolling can lead to the formation of martensite in the center of wire rod, which caused the lattice distortion during transformation. Because of the high hardness and poor deformation capacity of martensite, microcrack was formed and developed in the drawing process, which caused the fracture of wire rod. This was the main causes of pencil-tip shaped fracture of 82B wire rod during the drawing process. For this reason, reducing the composition segregation of billet and optimizing the cooling process after rolling were adopted to decrease the size of martensite, by which it can obtain good results and solve the pencil- tip shaped fracture in the drawing process.
