Estimation of energy conservation and emissions reduction by substitution limestone for lime as the steelmaking slagging material

Abstract：The links of energy conservation and emissions reduction in the new steelmaking process by slagging with limestone were compared with that in the current lime- steelmaking process. The energy conservation effect of each link was calculated by the IPCC emission factor method. The result showed that energy consumption in new process decreased by 18.32kg/t(steel) in comparison with that in the current process, which was equivalent to 45.80kgCO2 /t(steel) emission reduction. At the same time, the new technology can reduce the emissions of the dust, SO2, NOX and ash haze particles by 5.34g/t(steel), 14.15g/t(steel), 70.77g/t(steel) and 127.39g/t(steel), respectively.
