Estimation of energy conservation and emissions reduction by substitution limestone for lime as the steelmaking slagging material

Abstract:The links of energy conservation and emissions reduction in the new steelmaking process by slagging with limestone were compared with that in the current lime- steelmaking process. The energy conservation effect of each link was calculated by the IPCC emission factor method. The result showed that energy consumption in new process decreased by 18.32kg/t(steel) in comparison with that in the current process, which was equivalent to 45.80kgCO2 /t(steel) emission reduction. At the same time, the new technology can reduce the emissions of the dust, SO2, NOX and ash haze particles by 5.34g/t(steel), 14.15g/t(steel), 70.77g/t(steel) and 127.39g/t(steel), respectively.
